The sixth commendation conference for outstanding young and middle-aged experts in Chongqing, organized by the Organization Department of the Chongqing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China and the Chongqing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau, was held on August 28, 2024. Professor Yu Miao from the College of Optoelectronic Engineering at Chongqing University was awarded the title of "Outstanding Young and Middle-aged Expert in Chongqing" as a representative of Chongqing University and attended the award ceremony.

"The Chongqing Municipal Outstanding Contribution Young and Middle-aged Experts" is an evaluation activity initiated by the Chongqing Municipal Organization Department and the Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau in 2007, conducted every two years among professional technical personnel and management personnel in various enterprises and institutions within the administrative region of Chongqing. This honor is established to fully mobilize the enthusiasm and creativity of a wide range of high-level outstanding young and middle-aged talents in promoting the prosperity of the people and the development of a harmonious Chongqing. The sixth batch of "Chongqing Municipal Outstanding Contribution Young and Middle-aged Experts" was ultimately selected through a process of strict examination, expert review, public announcement, and conference approval, resulting in the selection of 40 professional technical talents and 10 high-skilled talents.
Professor Yu Miao, doctoral advisor, head of the Measurement and Control Technology and Instrumentation Department at the School of Optoelectronic Engineering, Chongqing University. He has been recognized as a New Century Excellent Talent by the Ministry of Education, a leading academic and technical figure in Instrument Science and Technology in Chongqing, and a backbone teacher for young and middle-aged faculty in Chongqing universities. Currently, he serves as the director of the Magnetorheological Center at Chongqing University, a committee member of the Measurement and Testing Instrument Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Metrology and Testing, a committee member of the Chinese Rheology Committee, and a committee member of the organization committee for the International Electromagnetic Rheology Conference (ERMR).
Professor Yu Miao is rooted in teaching and research, pioneering the development of vibration reduction theory, key technologies, and equipment for magnetosensitive smart materials in China, and promoting the industrialization of magnetorheological technology. After more than twenty years of continuous efforts, he has successfully developed various high-performance magnetorheological smart devices, addressing the vibration reduction challenges of high-end equipment in complex environments. He has presided over five National Natural Science Foundation projects, as well as 22 research projects from the JW Equipment Department, the Ministry of Science and Technology, and others, published over 140 papers, been granted 12 invention patents, and authored one monograph. As the primary contributor, he won the First Prize of Scientific and Technological Progress in Chongqing in 2020. Leading the Chinese magnetorheology research team, he successfully hosted the top international conference ERMR in the field of magnetorheology for the first time in 2023, along with the 15th National Rheology Academic Conference, achieving significant academic influence in the field. He has supervised two postdoctoral researchers, 18 doctoral students, and 45 master's students, among whom two have been promoted to professors, three have received the Chongqing Excellent Paper Award, eight have won national scholarships, and five have received awards for excellent papers at international and domestic magnetorheological conferences.
